Almario Vernard "Mario" Chalmers was born May 19,1986 in Anchorage, Alaska. His parents are Ronnie and Almarie Chalmers. Mario has an older sister named Roneka who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chalmers is the founder of the Mario V. Chalmers Foundation. Chalmers foundation supports athletic and educational programs for children and he also helps fund programs for breast cancer research.
In Chalmers High School days he went to Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska. Chalmers was named the 4A State Player of the Year for his third time in a row. Chalmers also led his school to two state championships in 2002 and 2003, and a runner up in 2004. In College, mario was rated second overall point guard in the 2005 recruiting class. He got four offers before making his choice to go to the University of Kansas on May 21, 2004.
Chalmers started his college career on the bench behind guard Jeff Hawkins for the Kansas Jayhawks. He worked really hard to get to the starting rotation in January 2006. He finished his freshman year averaging 12 points per game, mario became the second freshman in Big 12 history to win the Conference Player of the Week. He was also given the award National Freshman of the Week twice. He also set the Kansas Jayhawks record and Big 12 record for most steals by a freshman with 89 steals. Chalmers won the Big 12 Tournament Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player Award, and Free Throw Percentage Award. Mario Chalmers has got a lot of awards through out his college career.
Chalmers was the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft. He was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Later on, Mario was traded to the Miami Heat in 2010-2011, were he would be playing with Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. Lebron James took Mario's number 6 and so mario ended up taking his old number 15 when joining Miami Heat. In the championship game Mario made a half court buzzer beater which would put the Heat up by one. At the end of the game they lost the NBA Finals to the Dallas Mavericks, everyone was shocked that Miami lost because they had the big three. I even thought that there was not going to be a team that was going to stop the Miami Heat but I was wrong. I was always told that you can do anything you set your mind to and that's what the Dallas Mavericks did.
Chalmers is a true role player on the Miami Heat and I hope he stays on the Heat for a long time. Chalmers is the starting point guard for the Miami Heat. I think the back up point guard is Norris Cole but this year, they picked up Shabazz Napier and he might be the new point guard or a back up. I hope that Chalmers stays the the starter point guard but you never know what can happen. Overall, I love watching Chalmers play and all of the Miami Heat players play, for me it's like an adrenaline rush, like I want to play right after watching a game.

Mario Chamlers... Where to start? Hmm... Mario is a great point guard. He really is, but I honestly think he should come off the bench for the Heat and they should let Norris Cole start. Mario is the vet, but Norris has more drive, ability, and mentality than Mario I think. Mario can shoot the ball. I am not dissing on the guy or saying he does not deserve a starting role for the NBA, but I just think for Heat he should come off. If Mario does not like that then he could trade. Maybe he could go to the Lakers and play with Carlos Boozer so it could be Alaskan and Alaskan on the same team.
ReplyDeleteI respect Mario because he is from Alaska. He makes me realize that I could make it to the WNBA. I wish he was out on the court more though. All of the times I watch Miami he is either doing horrible or benched. He is a super talented person, but he needs more playing time so he can show himself more.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Mario Chalmers was from Alaska. That is amazing that you are in his backyard. I have lived in Leavenworth for 15 years. My kids went to High School with Wayne Simien and we have been Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, KUUUU fans since then. I remember the wild ride to the NCAA Championships and the amazing Chalmers shots to help win those last few games. San Antonio was rocking!!!! He was in the class of triplets to be drafted. What a ride. I too hope he remains with Miami for a long career.
ReplyDeleteYour teacher, Ms. Jones, is the daughter of my dear friend, Donna Jones. You have a great teacher there. Enjoy!!!
